February 23, 2014

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF A CUP OF GINGER TEA/ADRAK CHAI/MASALA TEA/MASALA CHAI

NATURAL CURE FOR COLD/COUGH & NATURAL PREVENTION/PROTECTION AGAINST COLD/COUGH

PERFECT FOR ALL WINTERS

Ingredients (for 1 cup):

Water – 3/4 cup

Tea (leaf tea) – 1.5 tsp (if its dust, 1 tsp must be enough)  (I use Indian tea naturally)

Fresh Ginger – a 1 inch piece – with skin peeled and washed

(In Tamil Nadu we normally use ‘sukku’ or dried ginger for ginger tea/coffee.  however, i use regular fresh piece of ginger always.  ‘Sukku’ rich in medicinal properties is available in all ‘naattu marundhu’ (traditional/country medicine) shops across TN. Available in powdered form also for ready use.  Such a cup is called ‘sukku’ coffee or ‘sukku’ tea as the case may be).

Sugar – 1.5 tsp (can vary) (optional)

Milk – 1/2 cup

(small extra: add a small cinnamon stick, a clove and a pinch of cardamom powder to this to make it superstrong Masala Chai/Masala Tea or Spice Tea)

Method:

Grate the ginger very fine/mash it in a hand pounder and add it to 3/4 cups of water.  Add the leaf tea and sugar.  Let it soak for about 30 min.

Boil 1/2 cup milk separately for use or fresh milk can be used straight away.

After soaking, bring the tea water with its ingredients to a boil until the cup reduces to 1/2 cup ginger tea water.  Masala/spices can be added at this stage (if desired)

Let the contents cool and remain soaked for another 30 min atleast.  By now all the ginger extract is in the tea water.  (Strain for tea decoction at this stage if you want for use at a later stage).

After half an hour, add 1/2 cup fresh/boiled milk to this ginger tea water and bring everything to a boil again.

Strain.

We have a super strong cup of Ginger Tea/Adrak Chai/Masala Chai/Masala Tea hot and steaming, perfect for winter!  This tea is very thick and milky, extra strong and real hot with ginger extract that is good at arresting cold and cough with immediate effect.

PS:  Tea decoction can be obtained for later use when  we have to make brew more than 1 cup at a time.

For multiple cups:  Add 1/2 cup of water and 1.5 tsp of leaf tea or 1 tsp of dust tea for every extra cup.  Sugar optional.
